Toul forts et remparts
Fortresses and ramparts around the stronghold of Toul
Between 1874 and 1914, Toul became one of the strongest and most modern fortified towns in the world under the direction of a rather unknown and forgotten general, Séré de Rivières. Powerful fortifications, constantly updated and improved, were built around Toul.
Showing the transition between the former forts built in masonry and cut stone, and the modern version of the Maginot Line dominated by concrete and artillery turrets. Toul exhibits nowadays several masterworks of this period. Five forts are now associated so that you can discover this heritage along the riverbanks of the Moselle.
